Indian Army Bike Stunt in Limca Book of World Records 2011

The Dare Devils of the Army revved up their bikes at the Republic Day parade on Wednesday and showed why they had five world records to their credit. Their stunning stunts included a 35-man human pyramid on a single motorcycle!

Over 100 Indian Army signalmen displayed breathtaking daredevilry on their well-tuned motorcycles at the Rajpath boulevard, raising the adrenaline flow of spectators, who couldn't stop themselves from shouting with enthusiasm.

Many held their breath as 35 of the men from the Corps of Signals formed a human pyramid on a single motorcycle - one of them carrying the national flag. The crowds spontaneously saluted the men!

People craned their necks to see Captain Ankur Deewan, who led the team, standing on a running motorcycle for more than half a kilometre.

As an announcement was heard asking people not to imitate the act as the Delhi traffic cops would levy a fine, the crowd burst into laughter. Delhi policemen men in the security wing also smiled.

The team is 45 years old. With five world records to their credit and six in the Limca Book of Records, the team has performed over 1,200 displays since 1965.

Among the first stunts to be showcased by the team, dressed in white and astride Enfield Bullet bikes, was the 'Rocket' formation which saw four signalmen on two motorcycles in a breathtaking display.

There was complete silence when 22 daredevils in lotus structure rode on two bikes.

It was daredevilry at its best.

Mitsubishi Motors breaks Five Guinness World Records

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA), today announced its Outlander (SUV) and Outlander Sport (CUV) have become the most awarded family of all-wheel drive vehicles by breaking five Guinness World Records® within a 24-hour period by any vehicle in its class. This historic feat becomes the latest marketing campaign for Mitsubishi, demonstrating the company's spirit of innovation and highlighting their sophisticated All-Wheel Control System.
Together with its agency of record, 180 Los Angeles (180LA), MMNA put the vehicles' handling to the test on frozen Ghost Lake near Calgary, Alberta, Canada with record low temperatures of –13 degrees Fahrenheit.  The goal was to showcase the sophisticated technology and capabilities of these vehicles. Driven by stuntman Garvin Cross who has appeared in dozens of movies and as a stunt double for Daniel Craig, the two vehicles broke the following records in 24 hours:Greatest distance driven by a vehicle in reverse on snow in 30 seconds;Shortest braking distance by a vehicle on ice; Most vehicle figure eights on ice in two minutes;Fastest vehicle slalom relay on ice; andFastest driven square lap.

"The spot clearly captures the incredible capabilities of our unparalleled all-wheel control system on our advanced Outlander family of vehicles, now even more relevant given the recent unpredictability in the weather," said VP of Marketing, Greg Adams.
The marketing campaign launches February 9 and includes television, digital, social media and PR.  Two television spots highlight the new world records and purposefully illustrate the vehicles' performance in extreme conditions to give consumers confidence in the vehicles' engineering and capabilities in every day driving.  The spots will air on 12 network and cable TV stations, including ESPN, Discovery Channel, and FX. Digital marketing includes homepage takeovers, online banners as well as a strong social media push. All campaign elements lead consumers to www.MitsubishiCars.com/WorldRecords to find out more. This campaign follows MMNA's recent campaign, the Live Drive, the World's First Online Test Drive, where the Outlander Sport was awarded its first Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by a vehicle operated online.
"Breaking world records seemed like a worthy challenge, as well as a fresh idea for a marketing campaign," notes 180LA creative director Gavin Milner.  "It's an awesome way to show the technical prowess of the feature-rich lineup of Outlander vehicles."

Iranian Chess Players set New Guinness World Records

An Iranian grandmaster said he ousted the Israeli title holder on Wednesday to regain the Guinness record for simultaneous chess games after facing more than 600 players in over 25 hours.

Ehsan Ghaem Maghami, 28, won 96 percent of his games which began on Tuesday in Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University, a feat reportedly making him the new Guinness title holder of the game.

A representative of World Chess Federation (FIDE) who was present during the event was yet to confirm Maghami's victory. He had to win 80 percent of the games to seal the record, Iran's ISNA news agency reported.

Of the total 614 games, Maghami won 590, lost eight and drew 16 in a feat that took more than 25 hours and treading around 55 kilometres (34 miles) as he moved from opponent to opponent.

Maghami said there was "no problem to register the record given the presence of the FIDE representative who was observing the matches. FIDE will report the outcome to Guinness."

He said he would have put in the same zeal even if the previous title holder was a non-Israeli.

"Iran is great and deserves the best. Let's not talk politics... even if this record was held by another person, I would have gone all out to break it," he said after the matches when asked about ousting Israeli Alik Gershon.

On October 22, Gershon had won 454 games, lost 11 and drawn 58, setting the record at 523 after ousting another Iranian, Morteza Mahjoob, who previously won the title in August after victory in 500 games.

On defeating Mahjoob, an euphoric Gershon said: "Hopefully, all our wars against Iran will be on the chess board."

Iran and Israel are bitter rivals outside of chess with the latter not ruling out a military strike against the Islamic republic to stop its controversial nuclear programme.

The political animosity between the two escalated under Iran's firebrand President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who has often denied the Nazi Holocaust and said the Jewish state will one day be "wiped off the map."

"I am so happy to break the record, but now I have to break my sleep record," ISNA quoted Maghami as saying. He said a physician, masseuse and a dietician were monitoring him.

Maghami said he would not be surprised if his record was also broken soon, adding he would like to better it himself.

"It is not strange for my record to be broken by anyone. Mr Mahjoob had the title for more than a year. I could try to improve it," Maghami said.

Mahjoob said he will pitch for the title again and expressed his joy at a fellow Iranian regaining the title.

"Soon I will set a record. The title will remain Iranian since I will have a go at the record in the coming summer. I am determined and I will do it," Mahjoob said, quoted by Mehr news agency.

In October, after his defeat to Gershon, he said he would exert extra efforts to win again and even play against 1,000 players simultaneously.

Chess was outlawed in Iran in 1981 because it was perceived to encourage betting, which is forbidden in Islam.

But in 1988 the Islamic republic's founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a decree permitting chess as long as no gambling was involved. Since then the game has made a vigorous comeback in Iran.

Thomas Edison World Records - World's Longest Lasting Light Bulb

Today Google Doodle marks the 164th Birthday of Thomas Edison. On the occasion of Thomas Edison 164th Birthday the Google logo portrays some of the famous inventions of the scientist. This includes phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb.
Thomas Edison Inventions - World Records
The world's longest lasting light bulb is the Centennial Light located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California. It is maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. The fire department claims that the bulb is at least 109 years old and has only been turned off a handful of times. The bulb has been noted by The Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, and General Electric as being the world's longest-lasting light bulb.

While it might seem astonishing that so many longest-lasting light bulbs have been so infrequently turned off, this is the precise reason for their longevity. Most of the wear and tear that leads to burnouts in incandescent light bulbs is caused by turning them on and off, not by burning them. Each time the bulb is turned on and off, the filament is heated and cooled. This causes the material of the filament to expand and contract, in turn causing tiny stress cracks to develop. The more the light is turned on and off, the larger these cracks grow, until eventually the filament breaks at some point, causing the light to burn out.

Thomas Edison designed a bulb that was supposed to last forever, called the Eternal Light, and turned it on on October 22, 1929. The bulb is located in the Memorial Tower at the Edison Memorial Museum in Menlo Park, New Jersey. The tower fell down in 1937, but the bulb's power was supposedly uninterrupted, according to General Electric, and continued to burn while a second tower was constructed. According to museum curator Jack Stanley, the bulb is fake, consisting of a hollow bulb illuminated by a series of automobile headlights mounted in the display's base

world record:-After 53 years, Guinness World Records honors Adele Trapp as longest serving den mother

When Adele Trapp 1st volunteered as a den mother as among Brooklyn's Cub Scout groups, Dwight Eisenhower was President and a 1st class stamp price 3 cents.

That was 53 yrs past. The mild-mannered great-grandmother has been opening her heart to kids e'er as.

Trapp, ninety-six, has attended each week scout meetings of Bedford-Stuyvesant's Pack 263 for more than half her life and has taught kids arts and crafts while offering pearls of wisdom.

In honour of her decades-long commitment, she's only been respected as the world's longest-serving den mother by Guinness World Records.

She overtook Marion Rohner of the Hudson Valley Council Boy Scouts, who served 43 yrs.

"It is beautiful; it is really nice," Trapp said as she was presented with a certificate of her accomplishments at St. Phillips Church on Decatur St. this week.

"I am not out for an award."

This isn't the 1st time Trapp has been a record breaker.

In 2005, once she was 90, she was celebrated as the oldest employee in NY public school system for her work as a regular school aide at Junior High School 258 in Brooklyn.

"She luvs children. If we're at home, I'll hear her say 'Where are the children?'" said her daughter Evelyn Rainford, 75, who's cub master to the same Brooklyn scout group.

"She's just a simple lady who loves children. That's the bottom line."

Trapp, who lives in Crown Heights, has seen generations of youth scouts come to St. Phillips Church, wherever the two-hour Tues evening get-togethers are held.

Among her previous scouts, who's now retired, has brought his own kids and grandkids through the doors, her daughter said.

"The children, they look at you as though you are their parent," Trapp explained.

"You've to actually take care of them because they make themselves a part of you."

Trapp arrives at meetings every week decked out in a bright red, slenderly frayed jacket covered in badges of merit from her yrs with Pack 263.

It sits across her dark green pants and brown shirt, held in place with a regulation scout necktie.

Given her impeccable attire and manners, Trapp has little patience for some boy who Is not equally well-dressed and behaved.

Still, the youngsters react with adoration.

"She's fun," said Zachary Bentley, ten.

"She's useful. She gives us good advice."

Adrian Israel, XII, marveled at the thought of his den mother looking in incoming yr version of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Then he revealed other reason he's so fond of this hard-working woman.

"She never comes without food," he said.

world record:- Guinness Book of World Records Certifies Moraga Jumpers

The Guinness Book of World Records formally certificated Camino Pablo's pursuit of the "Mass Rope Skipping" record in conjunction with across 360 schools all around the state these summer.

The jump-o-rama was final school year, but the effort was only certificated by Guinness this summertime. Camino Pablo now with pride exhibits the banner in its multi-use room.? More than 360 schools participated in the effort total, with 338 Camino Pablo students taking part.

Physical Education instructor Amber Peterson, who organized the local jump-a-thon, was working at Camino Pablo final year once her job, along with a lot services, was cut in response to budget duress. Fortunately, the Moraga Education Foundation got through and her job and a lot of those services were fixed.

"Whenever it was not for the parents, I would not have a job," Peterson said. "I am thankful to the community for being capable to be here."

And the kids are thankful to her, apparently, for aiming them into the Book of World Records. The world jumping record will be part of the 2011 edition.
