Louis Tussaud's Waxworks, Pattaya, has announced this years " Love Kiss Marathon ", aiming for the World's Longest Continuous Kiss to enter the World Guinness Record Book. The contestants will also be competing for gems and a prize of 200,000 thb.

Pattaya, 27 January 2011 [PDN]: Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks Pattaya is organizing the event to welcome this year’s Valentine’s Day with the event of the marathon of the World’s Longest Kiss, competing for a Guinness Record. The current record for the World’s Longest Continuous Kiss in the Guinness Book lasted 32 hours. That’s going to make more than 32 hours for you and your lover in which you won’t miss each other for a sec. In Thai culture, a long tender kiss should not be contrary to morality therefore the ministry of culture is has to approve this event. The lips of the participating couples are not allowed to be parted for 32 hours, and whoever exceeds the current record of 32 hours 7 minutes and 14 seconds by the largest margin will become the new Guinness record holder for the Longest Continuous Kiss.

Thai Couples Break Longest Kiss Guinness World Record

A Thai couple has made history with the longest kiss ever during a Valentine's Day "kissathon" after they locked lips for 46 hours, 24 minutes and nine seconds.

Organizers of the event, which took place at a southern beach resort town, claim it marked the longest recorded smooch in history.

"We didn't think we would find anybody that could break the record," CBS News quoted Somporn Naksuetrong, the manager of Pattaya's Louis Tussaud's Waxworks museum, which organized the competition, as saying.

Fourteen couples had started off the contest at 6 a.m. on February 13, and by February 14 afternoon, half had already beaten the record and were still smooching away on the corridor of an oceanside shopping mall in Pattaya.

A Bangkok couple, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat, emerged as the winner, and they were awarded a diamond ring worth 50,000 Thai Baht (1,606 dollars), and a cash prize of 100,000 Baht (3,213 dollars).

According to Guinness World Records, whose officials will have to verify the latest milestone for it to become official, the previous record of just over 32 hours had been set by a couple in Germany in 2009.

The rule for the kissathon is that couples should lock lips all the time, and if they wish to have a drink they have to do so using straws while continuing the kiss.

And if they wish to use the bathroom, they have to continue embracing each other, while accompanied by contest monitors. But the harshest rule was no sitting or sleeping.

Thomas Edison World Records - World's Longest Lasting Light Bulb

Today Google Doodle marks the 164th Birthday of Thomas Edison. On the occasion of Thomas Edison 164th Birthday the Google logo portrays some of the famous inventions of the scientist. This includes phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb.

The world's longest lasting light bulb is the Centennial Light located at 4550 East Avenue, Livermore, California. It is maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. The fire department claims that the bulb is at least 109 years old and has only been turned off a handful of times. The bulb has been noted by The Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, and General Electric as being the world's longest-lasting light bulb.

While it might seem astonishing that so many longest-lasting light bulbs have been so infrequently turned off, this is the precise reason for their longevity. Most of the wear and tear that leads to burnouts in incandescent light bulbs is caused by turning them on and off, not by burning them. Each time the bulb is turned on and off, the filament is heated and cooled. This causes the material of the filament to expand and contract, in turn causing tiny stress cracks to develop. The more the light is turned on and off, the larger these cracks grow, until eventually the filament breaks at some point, causing the light to burn out.

Thomas Edison designed a bulb that was supposed to last forever, called the Eternal Light, and turned it on on October 22, 1929. The bulb is located in the Memorial Tower at the Edison Memorial Museum in Menlo Park, New Jersey. The tower fell down in 1937, but the bulb's power was supposedly uninterrupted, according to General Electric, and continued to burn while a second tower was constructed. When Adele Trapp 1st volunteered as a den mother as among Brooklyn's Cub Scout groups, Dwight Eisenhower was President and a 1st class stamp price 3 cents.

That was 53 yrs past. The mild-mannered great-grandmother has been opening her heart to kids e'er as.

Trapp, ninety-six, has attended each week scout meetings of Bedford-Stuyvesant's Pack 263 for more than half her life and has taught kids arts and crafts while offering pearls of wisdom.

In honour of her decades-long commitment, she's only been respected as the world's longest-serving den mother by Guinness World Records.

She overtook Marion Rohner of the Hudson Valley Council Boy Scouts, who served 43 yrs.

"It is beautiful; it is really nice," Trapp said as she was presented with a certificate of her accomplishments at St. Phillips Church on Decatur St. this week.

"I am not out for an award."

This isn't the 1st time Trapp has been a record breaker.

In 2005, once she was 90, she was celebrated as the oldest employee in NY public school system for her work as a regular school aide at Junior High School 258 in Brooklyn.

"She luvs children. If we're at home, I'll hear her say 'Where are the children?'" said her daughter Evelyn Rainford, 75, who's cub master to the same Brooklyn scout group.

"She's just a simple lady who loves children. That's the bottom line."

Trapp, who lives in Crown Heights, has seen generations of youth scouts come to St. Phillips Church, wherever the two-hour Tues evening get-togethers are held.

Among her previous scouts, who's now retired, has brought his own kids and grandkids through the doors, her daughter said.

"The children, they look at you as though you are their parent," Trapp explained.

"You've to actually take care of them because they make themselves a part of you."

Trapp arrives at meetings every week decked out in a bright red, slenderly frayed jacket covered in badges of merit from her yrs with Pack 263.

It sits across her dark green pants and brown shirt, held in place with a regulation scout necktie.

Given her impeccable attire and manners, Trapp has little patience for some boy who Is not equally well-dressed and behaved.

Still, the youngsters react with adoration.

"She's fun," said Zachary Bentley, ten.

"She's useful. She gives us good advice."

Adrian Israel, XII, marveled at the thought of his den mother looking in incoming yr version of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Then he revealed other reason he's so fond of this hard-working woman.

"She never comes without food," he said.

World's Longest Handshake Record Within Grasp

A good, firm handshake shouldn't last more than two or three seconds. Any longer and it starts to get a bit awkward. Unless, of course, you're trying to set a world record.

Last night, four teams of two from around the world congregated in New York's Times Square attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the Longest Continuous Handshake.

The event began Friday just after 8 p.m. outdoors in Father Duffy Square amidst frigid 24-degree weather and will carry on until the last team breaks the gentlemanly bond. Proceeds raised from donations will go to the charities of each team's choice.

The competition is the brainchild of 21-year-old John-Clark Levin of Ojai, Calif., who set a handshaking record in May 2009 while attending Claremont McKenna College. He and a college friend shook hands for 10 hours, 10 minutes, 10 seconds.

"We did it with very little prep, more or less on a whim," Levin told AOL News. "We thought it'd be good to break a Guinness record and raise money for cancer in the process."

The following September, while their record was still in the review process with Guinness, Levin learned that a team of Australian chums bested their record with a time of 12 hours, 34 minutes, 56 seconds. They, too, shook on behalf of a charity.

Determined to win back their record, the Claremont McKenna team roared back a month later with a 15-hour, 15-minute, 15-second shake.

According to Guinness, that record was also broken. It currently lists the record as 15 hours, 30 minutes, 45 seconds, achieved by Matthew Rosen and Joe Ackerman of the U.K., on Nov. 21, 2009.

Levin says a team from Nepal also broke their record.

Rather than allowing the global one-upsmanship to continue, Levin decided to extend his hand to all the teams -- along with a few new contenders -- for a winner-take-all competition.

"But one thing we have in common is a New Zealand mental resilience and toughness that will keep us going when the chips are down."

"It would be better all around to gather, same place, same time, start shaking, last hand wins," he said. "It would have a greater impact for fundraising and awareness for the various causes these people have been supporting."

Levin has a new partner and co-organizer in Joe Luchsinger, a student at Baldwin-Wallace University. The two have met only once in Luchsinger's hometown of Bexley, Ohio. However, during that meeting they shook hands for 20 hours. The shake began in the evening, lasted through the night and an Ohio State football game the next day. They're competing on behalf of Teach for America.

"We're feeling great so far," Levin said shortly after the competition began. "But Robert Frost's words come readily to mind: miles to go, in this case hours to go, maybe even days to go, before we sleep."

One of the new teams determined to outshake Levin and Luchsinger hails from Auckland, New Zealand.

Half of that team features Alastair Galpin, 36, who holds the distinction of being the second biggest Guinness World Record breaker over the past decade. His nearly 100 records include the longest light bulb throw (94 feet) and the fastest time to shell one hard-boiled egg (18.95 seconds).

He's been preparing for this event since early December. His partner, 49-year-old Don Purdon, signed on just weeks ago and hopes to achieve his first world record. Together, they'll shake to raise money for the Auckland Down Syndrome Association.

"My attitude is I'll go until I collapse or until I win with a bang," Galpin said.

A mere ten minutes into the competition, with nine layers of clothing, he and Purdon were off to a good start.

"The key thing's gonna be the weather and how cold it gets in the middle of the night," Purdon said, who was armed with six layers.

Galpin held a previous record for the Longest Continuous Handshake, partnered with "a muscle-y young man" for nine hours, 19 minutes. "It was fun -- even urinating and being fed coffee," he said. "We were successful."

Prior to this current attempt, he consulted a sports doctor, physiologist, gym trainers and endurance specialists and believes he's mentally and physically ready. His training routine involved hours of shaking a sandwich spread bottle with his right arm wrapped in ice packs.

"People were staring, and some even dodging me, as I walked along in the 25- to 35-degree Celsius weather," he said in regards to his unorthodox technique. "If they knew what lay in store, they'd be doing it, too."

And while his partner is new to the world record world, he believes he's up to the task. Purdon, who runs his own design consultant company, has competed in other endurance events.

All participants will have to follow strict rules to remain in the competition. Hands must maintain a shaking motion at all times -- even if a bathroom break should be necessary. Guinness forbids any incontinence devices or nappies, and a video crew must attend any trips to a toilet.

For these reasons, Levin admitted during previous attempts that "we felt it was better to hold it in."

Teams can eat and drink, provided they can manage it with one hand or receive help from someone else.

But what about the inevitable sweat? Moisture could prove dangerous to the grip. When needed, Levin plans to adjust his hold just enough to allow rubbing alcohol to be sprayed between the hands.

"As it evaporates it dries the palms quickly," he explained. "So we can have a dry, firm grip."

An official Guinness adjudicator is on site to document the competition and uphold the rules.

"The people who train for these records are just incredibly motivated," Levin said. "With media surrounding, a live feed and thousands of passersby right here in Times Square, a lot of pride, a lot of charity, they're not going to go down easily. I expect the current record to go down by quite a lot."

Guinness World Record:- Larry King Live - World Longest Running TV Show

Larry King, who has hosted the 'Larry King Live' show int the 9 p.m. EST slot for 25 years, has decided to step down. The TV interviewer cites a desire to spend more time with his wife and young children and plans to leave the show later in 2010 during the fall season.The big announcement was made on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. King had also placed a tidbit on Twitter which said " Announcing tonight: I’m ending my nightly show this fall but continuing at CNN" (Twitter). As an aside, the TV host has 1,648,920 Twitter followers.
King indicated he went to his employers and expressed his wish to step down and that "CNN has graciously accepted" (CNN.com).
Jon Klein, President of CNNUS, gave this statement "Larry is a beloved member of the CNN family and will continue to our air with periodic specials".

It seems while King is stepping down from his regular gig, he won't be retiring in full, just from the show, and does plan to stay with CNN.While King is leaving his long time show, it's probable he won't be out of the spotlight completely.
King has also spoken of desires to try other projects and with his leave of 'Larry King Live', he'll have much more free time to explore these other interests.More importantly he wants to have time to attend his kids' little league games.


Twenty-five years is a long time and King's was a record breaker. Recently his run on CNN resulted in the show making the Guinness Book of World Records having been declared as the longest running show with a host in a stable and consistent time slot.
While his ratings have dropped in recent years in the competitive time slot, his show still ranks in at #4.Over the years King has interviewed some pretty big names including politicians, entertainers, sports celebrities, business entrepreneurs- over 50,000 interviews total.
Since President Richard Nixon, King has interviewed every U.S. President.He's also played mediator to many debates, include some pretty heated ones.
Ross Perot launched his presidential campaign on the 'Larry King Live' and the show was also the setting for the historical Al Gore and Ross Perot NAFTA debate in 1993; the latter was one of the highest rated shows in the history of cable television.

As King leaves the 'Larry King Live' show he takes with him the experience of the tens of thousands of interviews, meetings with historical and iconic people, an Emmy, two Peabody Awards and a 1992 induction into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame (CNN.com).

Kalamandalam Hemalatha has shown the world why she's known as "the dancing queen of Kerala."
On January 6, Guinness World Records confirmed that she had set a world record for the "longest dance marathon by an individual."
Beginning on September 20, she shook her hips and wiggled her neck for 123 hours and 15 minutes.
The 37-year old mother performed the Mohiniyattam, a solo recital delivered by a female that is one of the eight Indian classical dance forms.

Dancing for more than five days straight poses risks—something Hemalatha knows all too well. In June, she failed during her first attempt at the record and had to stop performing after 63 hours (2.5 days).
At that time a local hospital admitted her for dehydration, a stomach disorder and sore feet.

Dean Groves, 81, retired at the ending of last season later umpiring as the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association for 33 yrs, the Wide Bay Cricket Association in Queensland for twenty yrs and Adelaide's nowadays-defunct Independent Central Cricket Association for 2 yrs; a career spanning 55 yrs which adjusts the world record as the Longest serving cricket umpire.

"I'd take yearly leave and long service leave to umpire at the fairs," he tells. "I only loved it all so much. Being an umpire is unlike being a batsman or a bowler - you are involved in all individual ball of the game."

He has enjoyed cricket all his life. At twenty-five he started umpiring Jr cricket in the Adelaide parklands and went on to umpire district-level games in South Australia and Queensland.

The World's Longest serving cricket umpire says "pretty healthiness" is the key to continuing for so long.

"[But] 55 yrs is a long while out there and I have seen an amazing lot."

Groves has watched cricket change over the yrs and there's one thing he doesn't like.
"The referral system I do not agree with. I mean the umpire's given the chance to go for the 3rd umpire whenever they wish," he said.

Groves has been nominated the world's most durable cricket umpire through The Guinness World Records.

The Guinness world record as the most durable cricket scorer was adjust by Mike Garwood (United Kingdom, b. 24 Feb 1928), who has been keeping score regularly for Old Minchendenians Cricket Club, Southgate, United Kingdom, for fifty yrs.

Guinness World Records too accepted the longest individual net session, which lasted for 24 hrs and was finished by Stephen Speak (U.S.) at St Mark's School, Downey, CA, U.S..
